The Tag Radar is a Sensor gadget introduced in the LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross-Controller Pack. It is used to wirelessly transmit a Tag's position to other parts of the level, and even between systems.

Usage and Behaviour

The Tag Radar was introduced to transfer positional data between the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems in Cross-Controller levels. It has two modes — Transmit and Receive — and at least two matching Radars (one in each mode) are required to mirror a Tag's position.

A Transmitter monitors the position of any matching Tag that enters its radius, and sends its position to all matching Receivers in the level. A Transmitter can only track one Tag at a time; if there are multiple matching Tags in its radius, only the closest one will be tracked.

A Receiver picks up the location data from a matching Transmitter and projects a phantom Tag that copies the original's colour, label and position relative to the Transmitter. The projection always adheres to Local Space, meaning its position can change depending on the Radar's orientation. For example, if the source Tag is directly above the Transmitter, and the Receiver is rotated 90° clockwise, the phantom Tag will appear to the right of the Receiver.

While the Tag projected by a Receiver behaves similarly to the original — Followers and Sackbots will move towards it, and it can be picked up by Tag Sensors — some properties are lost in transmission. In particular, the projection always emits an analogue signal of 100%, regardless of the source Tag's signal strength. Additionally, it will not be picked up at all by the Broadcast Microchip, or any gadget that relies on a tagged object's physical presence.

The Tag Radar does not have any inputs or outputs, though it is still possible to turn it off by putting it inside a Microchip and plugging a wire to its power input.

Tweaks

Determines how this Tag Radar operates.
Tweak TagRadar Transmit.pngTransmit
This Radar will monitor the position of the closest matching Tag in its radius, and pass it onto all matching Receivers in the level.
Tweak TagRadar Receive.pngReceive
This Radar will receive a Tag's positional data from a matching Transmitter, and project its own phantom Tag based on that data.

Sets the colour channel for the gadget. Sensors will only detect Tags matching this colour.
Tweak Text Label.png
Select or Tweak a Tag Label
Opens a dialogue box to create a new Tag label, or select an existing one.

Trigger

These tweaks are only available on Transmitters, and determine the radius in which Tags are detected.

Tweak Sensor MinimumRadius.png
Minimum Detection Range: (0.0 - 5,000.0)
Determines how close a Tag can get before the Transmitter stops detecting it.
Tweak Sensor MaximumRadius.png
Maximum Detection Range: (0.0 - 5,000.0)
Determines how close a Tag needs to be to be picked up by the Transmitter. Setting this below 0.0 will set the radius to infinite.

Scale

These tweaks are only available on Receivers, and are used to offset the phantom Tag's position.

Tweak Speech Voice Temp.png
Horizontal Scale: (-10.00 - 10.00)
The Tag's left/right movement will be multiplied by the value set here; negative values will invert its movement.
Tweak Speech Voice Temp.png
Vertical Scale: (-10.00 - 10.00)
The Tag's up/down movement will be multiplied by the value set here; negative values will invert its movement.
Tweak Movement InOut.png
Allow In-Out Movement: (
NoNo •‎
YesYes
)

If set to Yes, the original Tag's layer position will be applied to the Receiver's projection. Otherwise, the phantom Tag will be constrained to the same layer as the Radar.

Visuals

Tweak Visual Visibility.png
Visible in Play Mode: (
NoNo •‎

Determines whether or not the object will be rendered in Play Mode.
