Skate to Victory is the third main level in the Playstation 3 version of LittleBigPlanet, and the final level in The Gardens. The level serves as an introduction into the darker side of LittleBigPlanet, as The King sends the player into a haunted castle filled with spooky ghosts.
Overview
With night upon the kingdom, a test of bravery comes as The King orders the player to pass through a dangerous, haunted and spooky castle infested with ghosts to reach the other side. The player begins by flying up with a bird onto a cliff top, with a grabbable windmill atop of it, which the player can then ride to fling themselves across several chasms. After hopping between islands of more windmills, the player can drop down into a pit after accidentally causing some debris to fall from atop a peak. After passing star Sticker Switches, the player encounters a water wheel spinning treacherously over toxic water, dotted with Prize Bubbles in each water catchment. After another ride from one of many royal birds upward, The Queen appears infront of a Tutorial TV, to instruct the player how to use the Take A Photo Tool. Upon moving on, Dumpty appears along with a new powerup, the Jetpack. The player is instructed to use the Jetpack to lift up large sponge weights into a cardboard basket, to weigh the basket down and to lower the gate into the castle.
As the door closes behind, the player is met with a change of environment complete with ghosts of Horrible Gas, perusing the halls of the treacherous castle. After dodging ghosts and pulling a block of sponge back toward the exit, the player can use the block to platform up to a button that unlocks the door forward. More platforming and dodging occurs in the next room, toward a new button that activates a large boot to slide down, allowing access upwards. More of the same is at the top of the boot lift's path, along with a strange fellow poking in through the window. Atop this new room hangs the Level Key for Castle Climb Challenge, obtainable by jumping at the height of the boot's path and steering into the key.
After collecting the key, the player is able to continue on to a Multiplayer Challenge. The ghost by the left pole informs you that the Prize Bubbles locked at the top of the room can only be accessed if two players stand on a button each at the same time. This is the first example of a Multiplayer Challenge, a concept that has been included in every numbered LittleBigPlanet game, in which it usually requires you to have a friend or two by your side as you play, to achieve 100% completion.
After this, sliding platforms allow the player to weave up past a terrifying ghost to continue on to a secret room to the left. If the player decides against the secret room, they can continue on to another large boot, which rotates back and forth to kick a grabable stick into the next room, and if the player chooses to grab onto the sponge, they will get launched to the final room of the castle. At the final room, a piece of sponge on string allows the player to pull a platform down, that leads out and onto the roof of the castle, where Dumpty awaits atop a skateboard.
Hence the label's name, Skate to Victory, the final obstacle of the level is a skateboard ride down an incredibly large ramp, that leads all the way down to the level's ground for the player to then run along to the Scoreboard. If performed correctly, the player can use the momentum of the skateboard to jump up and collect the second Level Key of the level, the one assigned to Skateboard Freefall.
The player can then continue to the right, where The Queen gifts you Materials and Objects for use in the Create Moon. The King, inside a submarine, then informs you of your quest to help the people of LittleBigPlanet, and tells you to journey to King Zola's Savannah to help however you can.
This level at last gives you the Yellow Star sticker, a sticker that activates most of the Sticker Switch in The Gardens.
