— Level description |
The Collector is the final level in LittleBigPlanet's Story Mode. In this level, after freeing the last of the Creator Curators from The Collector's machines, Sackboy confronts him directly in a final battle.
Overview
The Collector begins where The Collector's Lair leaves off, with Sackboy riding a tram to a snowy mountain lodge. Making your way through a living room, you'll enter an ominous elevator shaft where The Collector taunts you before driving off in his Pod. The elevator lowers, bringing you down to the first phase of the battle.
The first contraption in The Collector's arsenal is straightforward. A giant spike-studded machine will move side to side, smashing down to impale the player if they're caught under it. Two Creature Brains sit on either side of the fist-like contraption, only becoming vulnerable when it hits the floor... But beware, as the fist will occasionally open up and release a torrent of electricity-charged balls down onto the player.
After destroying the machine, the elevator raises up to reveal a massive hulking monstrosity, which The Collector quickly takes control of. The Boss uses two mechanized fists to stomp the player, which sporadically unleash two electric minions that pursue the player until defeated. The Boss's fists contain three Creature Brain weak spots which must be popped to move forward in the fight, two of which can only be destroyed by using the minion enemies as a boost.
Once you destroy the outer shell of The Boss, it'll unleash its final phase in the form of a small, rocket-propelled core. Seven Creature Brains remain, six of which are exposed for the player to pop. However, only one can be reached by using a small, grabbable cardboard box that gives you the height necessary to reach it. In the meantime, The Boss will send out barrages of electricity to trap the player while also calling down a rainfall of even more electricity that must be narrowly maneuvered to survive.
When the final Brain gets popped, The Boss disintegrates, leaving The Collector frantically evading the player in his broken-down pod. Ducking down beneath a broken statue of his likeness, the Collector explains his evil tendencies and his loneliness amongst the rest of LittleBigPlanet. The Creator Curators emerge to reassure him that he should get out and be a part of the community, welcoming him with open arms and giving a happy ending to the story.
