The Collector is the fourth and final main level of The Wilderness, and the final level of the original LittleBigPlanet. After freeing the last of the Creator Curators from The Collector's machines, Sackboy confronts him directly in a final battle.
Overview
Introduction
The Collector begins where The Collector's Lair left off, with the player riding a tram to the titular antagonist's mountain lodge. Making your way through a living room, you'll enter a large elevator shaft where The Collector taunts you before driving off in his Pod. The elevator lowers, bringing you to the first phase of the battle.
Boss Battle
Phase One
The first contraption in The Collector's fight features a ceiling-suspended, spike-studded machine that constantly moves side to side, periodically smashing down to crush the player if they're caught under it. Two Creature Brains sit on either side of the contraption, only becoming vulnerable when it hits the floor. Once the first two Brains have been destroyed, the machine will continue its left-right movement pattern, now occasionally opening up to release a torrent of electricity-charged balls down on the player.
Dying at any point will cause a Double-Life Checkpoint to rise up into the fighting area, descending once all players have left the compartment.
Phase Two
After destroying the machine, the elevator raises up to reveal the Collector Boss. The Boss uses two mechanized fists to stomp the player, which sporadically unleash two Lone Wiper enemies that pursue the player until defeated; the Boss remains stationary while the Wipers are deployed. The Boss's fists contain three Creature Brain weak spots which must be popped to progress, two of which can only be destroyed by using the Wiper enemies as a boost.
Once you destroy the outer shell of The Boss, it'll unleash its final phase in the form of a small, rocket-propelled core. Seven Creature Brains remain, six of which are exposed for the player to pop. However, only one can be reached by using a small, grabbable cardboard box that gives you the height necessary to reach it. In the meantime, The Boss will send out barrages of electricity to trap the player while also calling down a torrent of hazards that must be narrowly maneuvered to survive.
Ending
When the final Brain is popped, The Boss disintegrates, leaving The Collector evading the player in his shattered pod. Ducking down beneath a broken statue of his likeness, the Collector explains the motives behind his plot, along with the cause of his loneliness. The Creator Curators emerge to reassure him that he's always welcome to join their community, bringing the Story Mode to its conclusion.
