Boom Town is the first main level of the Canyons. The level teaches the player about the various types of explosives in LittleBigPlanet, as well as how they interact with destructible terrain.
Overview
Plot overview
Sackboy arrives in the Canyons for Frida and Don Lu's honeymoon, where he learns that Don Lu's uncle Jalapeño has been kidnapped by the corrupt town sheriff Zapata. With the help of Jalapeño's friend Devante, the two free Jalapeño from the town jail. Jalapeño repays Sackboy by teaching him about impact explosives.
Walkthrough Guide
Boom Town introduces The Canyons' theme, with the player joining newlyweds Frida and Don Lu on their honeymoon trip. The couple's flying heart descends down to the jagged desert rocks, before letting the player depart. An outfit stand sits within view of the start, containing Prize Bubbles for the Poncho and Cha Cha outfits. Uncle Jalapeño's friend Devante warns of Jalapeño's predicament with the corrupt town sheriff Zapata, who has kidnapped and locked the Creator Curator inside the town jail. The level's first platforming challenges feature spikey cacti, with the second set of obstacles requiring the player to create an improvised sponge block platform to overcome round cactus bushes.
The second challenge introduces the player to Trigger Explosives and how they interact with Buttons. Climbing up a set of cliffs, the player must push buttons to clear the explosive-rigged blockages. Standing too close to the explosion will lead to the player's death, and large rolling fireballs halt immediate progression after the explosives have been activated. A cow lies at the top of the second cliff climb, holding a Level Key to the survival challenge Cowabunga around its neck. The final climb up the cliffside takes the player to a diverging path. Blowing up the final blockage leads to the village, while heading downward features a x2 multiplayer challenge, giving an early glimpse of Impact Explosives.
Taking the upwards route brings the player into town, where multiple opportunities for Prize Bubbles can be found. The first two houses the player must platform over are packed with trigger explosives, while also containing Prize Bubbles inside. A giant piñata hangs over the houses and can be grabbed by players to break its shell, freeing a stash of Prize and Score Bubbles from within, as well as another Level Key to the score challenge Wrestler's Drag. Two explosive towers sit to the left of the piñata, and these too can be activated with a nearby button to free a large bounty of prizes. Continuing out of town leads to a large ravine, where Sheriff Zapata descends to taunt about Uncle Jalapeño's situation. Pressing a button next to Zapata spawns a Rocket Car which provides enough speed to clear the ravine.
On the other side of the ravine sits the town jail, where Zapata sits helpless beneath a gang of Bandit Toy Soldiers. Devante directs the player to an explosive minecart on the other side of a scorpion-filled cave. Making contact with the scorpions' claws will lead to an immediate death, requiring the player to move carefully. Once on the other side, the player can either drag the minecart back to the jail or use it in conjunction with a large sponge block to reach a small challenge area. The challenge features a "shooting gallery" involving careful sticker placement on five Sticker Sensor activated platforms. Placing Orange Bird stickers on all five of the platforms frees multiple Prize Bubbles from above, while missing any one of the platforms and stickering the back portion of the area will result in the player being blown up.
Returning the minecart to the jail, Devante advises the player to stand back a safe distance, before demolishing the building entirely. Now free, Uncle Jalapeño thanks the player and requests they follow him through the caves beneath the town to learn more about Impact Explosives. Jumping down the hole leads to a Jetpack powerup and an endless supply of Impact Explosives. In order to clear the blockage up ahead, the player must carry explosives through the narrow caverns, being mindful not to set off the explosive through high-velocity contact with the terrain. Another x2 area involving exchanging explosives between players can be accessed by clearing a sponge-packed hole. Continuing on brings the player to the final challenge: carrying impact explosives through moving stalactites. Although the same rules apply as with the previous challenge, the stalactites move with enough force to consistently trigger explosions if any contact is made with the player. Clearing the final blockage brings the player back to Uncle Jalapeño, who has prepared a minecart ride straight to the Scoreboard.

Trivia
- Boom Town's bank is one of many multiplayer challenges in LittleBigPlanet that can be performed with only one person. Two explosive-filled houses at the start of the town section can be destroyed through the activation of their respective buttons. However, if only the first house is triggered, it may provide entry into the proceeding house, allowing the player to push the unsecured explosives in front of the bank. Activating the second house's button triggers the explosives, freeing the Prize Bubbles.
