— Unseen theme description | ||
The Metropolis is the fifth theme in the original LittleBigPlanet's story mode and the creation of Mags the Mechanic. The theme is based on urban culture in the United States, particularly the culture of New York City.
Overview
The Metropolis expands on the kinds of vehicles and machines that players can create in LittleBigPlanet, with cars being significant to the Metropolis' theme.
Plot overview
After Sackboy joins Uncle Jalapeño on a road trip out of the Canyons, the two arrive at Mags the Mechanic's workshop. Mags, taken aback at the state of Jalapeño's car, leads Sackboy to her garage to collect a new one. In exchange, Mags tasks Sackboy with earning back her ride from Ze Dude and his bouncers in a street race. The race ends abruptly as Ze Dude drives himself and Mags' car into the Metropolis' sewers. Sackboy ventures down into the city's subway to recover the car, before putting an end to Ze Dude's destructive spree atop Mags' construction site. Ze Dude admits Sackboy as the victor, and lends his private jet to the Islands to train with his mentor - Grandmaster Sensei.
Creator curator
Mags the Mechanic is the creator curator of the Metropolis. She is an avid mechanic and creator based in the Metropolis' city.

History
Development
During early development, the Metropolis was designed as one of multiple themes based in the United States. Although most of the conceptualized themes did not see extensive development, the American Mid-West Train had levels and assets designed for it. As a secondary theme to the Metropolis, American Mid-West Train may have preceded the Metropolis in the story mode's chronology, taking place in the US countryside between the Metropolis and the Canyons. American Mid-West Train was later cut and most of its assets redistributed across the final story mode. Other miscellaneous US themes included Frisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
Post-release
While the theme itself did not make a playable appearance in LittleBigPlanet PSP, some of its items can be purchased as downloadable content in the Metropolis Theme Pack. Though the theme would, again, not make a playable appearance in LittleBigPlanet Karting, all the Metropolis' items - barring the background - can be collected in the story mode and used freely in user created levels. Like all other LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 themes, the Metropolis would have been playable in LittleBigPlanet HUB either by purchasing the theme alone or by owning a copy of the original LittleBigPlanet.
