Overview

The Tutorial TV is a special object that plays a video when activated. It is exclusively found in the official story and tutorial levels, and cannot be used by players.

Usage and Behaviour

The Tutorial TV occupies the thin layer, and can be placed accordingly. By default the TV comes with a connected button and camera.

When the TV is activated using logic - usually with the button it comes with - it will start playing the selected video. Only one video can be active at a time; if another video is started while the first one is still playing, the first video will shut off. The video will also stop playing if the TV goes off-screen for too long, unless the level is a tutorial level. In the original LittleBigPlanet and its handheld counterpart, once a tutorial video has been viewed at least once, it is unlocked in the Videos And Voice Overs section of the Start menu, and can be rewatched at any time.

In LittleBigPlanet 2 Tutorial levels, certain controls inside of tutorial levels' start menu allow for pausing and rewinding of the current active video.

As the Tutorial TV was never intended to be used by players, it has no tweak menu, so the video it plays cannot be changed through normal means.

The Tutorial TV script has a field that allows it to activate a switch when the video is finished playing; the only use of this can be found in the Introduction level for the first game.

Variants

In LittleBigPlanet (PlayStation Portable), the TVs were replaced with signs that play a full-screen video on activation. Unlike the other games, the sign object is usable in Create Mode, though it serves no functional purpose.

In the LittleBigPlanet 2 Beta, a new Plastic design without a light on top was made for the Tutorial TV, to fit in with the rest of the new plastic-styled gameplay elements.

In the final version of LittleBigPlanet 2, the Beta's Plastic design was replaced with a new Cardboard variant.

In LittleBigPlanet 3, a variant was introduced to the LittleBigPlanet 2 design that has no base and can be hung on strings.
