The Savannah is the second area of the original LittleBigPlanet, and home to Zola. The theme is based on rural African culture and wildlife.

Overview

The Savannah expands on what was learned in the Gardens, featuring more obstacles and hazards to avoid. Additionally, it and all themes after it follow an overarching narrative throughout its levels.

Plot Overview

Sackboy's arrival in the Savannah goes awry as his submarine destroys into one of Zola's creations. The Wobbly Ape insists Sackboy convene with Zola to apologize for the mishap, but Zola has more troubles of his own. To repair the damage he caused, Sackboy seeks out the source of what is troubling the buffalo. Beyond a burning forest, Sackboy realizes that the crocs have been terrorizing the buffalo, and are suspected of eating Stripy Tail, the son of the Meerkat Mum. King Croc insists that this is untrue, sending Sackboy on a journey through the meerkat kingdom to find Stripy Tail's whereabouts. Stripy, who was out partying the entire time, returns to his mother with Sackboy's help. Impressed by Sackboy's work in reuniting Meerkat Mum and her son, the Wobbly Ape sends him to see Frida, a creator curator who lost her groom.

History

Pre-release

During early builds for LittleBigPlanet, the Gardens and the Savannah were meant to be divided by the Seaside, a second English theme. Rather than taking a submarine directly to the Savannah, players would instead travel to the Seaside to embark on a trip across the sea with Captain Victor, the theme's creator curator. When the theme was scrapped over quality concerns nearing LittleBigPlanet's release, the story changed to accommodate this.

LittleBigPlanet PSP

While the theme itself did not make a playable appearance in LittleBigPlanet PSP, some of its items can be purchased as downloadable content in the Savannah Theme Pack.
The Savannah Theme Pack features:

LittleBigPlanet Karting

In LittleBigPlanet Karting, the Savannah would make a minor playable appearance in the LittleBigPlanet theme, featuring as the level theme of the side level Savannah Rally. The level revolves around a brief adventure through the Savannah, including many of the same locales as the Savannah in LittleBigPlanet's story mode. The meerkats, crocs, and buffalo all return to provide obstacles the players must avoid. Despite its minor appearance, all of the Savannah's standalone items can be collected in the story mode and used freely in user created levels.

LittleBigPlanet HUB

Like all other LittleBigPlanet and LittleBigPlanet 2 themes, the Savannah would have been playable in LittleBigPlanet HUB either by purchasing the theme alone or by owning a copy of the original LittleBigPlanet.
