American Mid-West Train was a cut theme intended for the original LittleBigPlanet. Intended as a secondary United States theme to the Metropolis, American Mid-West was based on classic rural America, including farming, cowboys, and indigenous tribes.
History
During development, LittleBigPlanet's story mode followed a design structure based around two or more themes per country. Also following this structure was the Seaside for England, Japanese Akihabara District for Japan, and Russian Theatre for Russia. Like these other themes, American Mid-West had extensive development done for it, including level layouts, four unique outfits (Barley, Mo, Rodeo, and Little Poco), an interactive music track, and a background. At some point during 2008, American Mid-West Train was cut, with most of its assets redistributed across LittleBigPlanet's story mode. American Mid-West Train was designed around cowboy culture and rural Americana, and many of its levels explore these themes. Its background took place on a railroad track passing through farmland and weathered buildings, which likely inspired its internal name.
Like LittleBigPlanet's other cut themes, American Mid-West Train had most of its content repackaged or resold. Its interactive track was added to the Mm Music Pack 1 under the name "Well Trained". Additionally, the Roller Run and Cowabunga challenge levels originally designed for American Mid-West Train were repurposed for the Canyons.
