History
LittleBigPlanet
Uncle Jalapeño is mentioned by Don Lu in Skulldozer as his uncle, and the master of explosives, calling on Sackboy to come with to the Canyons to meet him.
In Boom Town Jalapeño's good friend Devante comes running to warn that Sheriff Zapata has kidnapped and falsely imprisoned him, pleading that he needs help. Later in the level the evil Sheriff encounters Sackboy to mock and laugh that Jalapeño is in the jail cell ahead. Devante appears again to aid the player in freeing Jalapeño, and after doing so with an explosive, he invites you down into the caverns below to get the hang of handling bombs and impact explosives. Jalapeño appears a few more times to instruct the player on the usage of impact explosives, ordering to clear out the tunnel ahead for an escape route. At the end of the level, Jalapeño hurries Sackboy into a minecart to catch up to Zapata and enter The Mines. Jalapeño informs the player that the corrupt Sheriff has escaped into the mines and must be stopped, leading to the rest of the next level and the eventual meet up back with Jalapeño. At the entrance to The Serpents Shrine, Jalapeño advises the player to be careful in the shrine, and also that the final showdown with Zapata will occur here. After the victory, Jalapeño asks to come along on his vacation to The Metropolis to meet Mags the Mechanic and have her show the player her cars.
Jalapeño allows you the wheel to his car to drive to The Metropolis in Lowrider, and stays in Mags' shop as Sackboy goes on.
Jalapeño appears along with Devante in a cage in The Collector's Lair, and is rescued by exploding his cage open. He appears as usual later to give Sackboy his character prize.
LittleBigPlanet Karting
Jalapeño makes two cameo appearances in LittleBigPlanet Karting, in Serpent's Shrine and Mine the Gap. He appears in his car just by the first outdoor section in Serpent's Shrine, and rolling by in a minecart in Mine the Gap to the left of the finish line.
LittleBigPlanet 3: The Journey Home
Jalapeño makes another cameo appearance in Bone-a-Fide Ride in a photograph of Frida the Bride's family, after completing Avalon Centrifuge's party invitation.
General information
Physical appearance
Uncle Jalapeño is a short skeletal being whose body is mostly covered by an oversized poncho with a decorative gold collar around his neck. He has black, angry eyebrows, a beardless but hairy chin, and a plastic moustache that rests over his frowning mouth. Quetzal feathers stick out from his skull, forming a mane that resembles Montezuma’s headdress, while his skeletal arms usually emerge from his poncho to rest on his lap.
Personality
Uncle Jalapeño can be described as a bit crazy, judging from his gibberish voice and dialogue. A part of this probably has to do with his love and mastery of explosives, explosives themselves being unpredictable and dangerous. Jalapeño is still nice to Sackboy, and has many more connections to the people of Craftworld than most one-sided original LittleBigPlanet characters, being friends with Mags the Mechanic and Devante, and being an uncle to Don Lu.
Trivia
- The inspiration of Uncle Jalapeño's name is a Jalapeño pepper, a Mexican vegetable used as spice for many meals.
- He appears in Lowrider with his mustache shaved off for no apparent reason. Despite the common design fluctuations of LBP1 characters, this detail remains consistent in The Collector's Lair.
