The Robo Boots, also known as the Power Boots, were a powerup planned for LittleBigPlanet 2 that would have granted users a unique wall jump ability, as well as increasing their run speed and jump height.
The Robo Boots are present in the files for the Deploy Build, but the pedestal object and its associated script that sets the appropriate powerup state were removed from subsequent builds. Despite this, the code for the Robo Boots powerup state still exists in the final game, and can be observed if a Sackbot equipped with the powerup is imported from an earlier build.
Overview
The Robo Boot Power Up pedestal uses the Paintinator as a base, with only a blue light beam to differentiate it. A unique costume model exists in the Deploy Build's files, but does not get applied when the powerup is equipped.
Unlike other powerups, it is not possible to manually remove the Robo Boots with as they were never finished. They can only be removed by passing through a Powerup Remover, dying, or coming in contact with an object lethalized with fire.
Coming into contact with water when using the Robo Boots will cause the player to fall through as if the water isn't there instead of entering the swimming state.
Modifiers
Though not implemented in the tweak menu directly, various modifiers for the Robo Boots exist within the script that would have allowed for customization.
Jump Height
The jump height modifier adjusts how high the player can jump; by default the Robo Boots increase the player's jump height to 1.25 times the normal jump height, which is about 8 small grid squares.
Speed
The speed modifier adjusts how fast the player can run; by default the Robo Boots increase the player's run speed to 1.25 times the normal walk speed.
Strength
The strength modifier adjusts how strong the player is when pushing heavy objects; by default the strength modifier is set to 1.0.
Abilities
Wall Run
Players can use the increased speed granted by the Robo Boots to run up curved terrain, as well as up walls and even ceilings. They are still subject to gravity whilst wall running, and will fall down after a short period. However, if the player enters a tunnel (roughly 2 small grid squares wide), they can stand in place.
Wall Jump
When a player is pressed against a wall, they will slide down it with reduced velocity.
Pressing whilst up against a wall will cause the player to jump away from it, and they won't be able to jump from the same wall again until they touch the ground or another wall.
The wall jump ability introduced in the DC Comics Premium Level Kit is built off of the exact same code as the Robo Boot's wall jump, but adds additional animations and tweaks to the velocity and slide speed.
History
Revealed in a developer document, ideas for Running Shoes and Jumping Shoes, along with the Power Gloves were originally conceptualized for the first LittleBigPlanet as possible DLC content. These early ideas predate the introduction of powerup pedestals and would have used a tether system similar to the Jetpack.
