Rookie Test is the first proper level in LittleBigPlanet 2's story mode, and the third level of Da Vinci's Hideout. Rookie Test expands on the basics of LittleBigPlanet 2's mechanics with help from Creator Curator and mentor Larry Da Vinci.

Walkthrough Guide

Rookie Test guides the player through Da Vinci's Hideout, guided along by the titular Larry Da Vinci. The level opens with Da Vinci greeting the player before following close behind as they jump over a small set of objects. The first Sticker Panel can be found directly after but can only be activated upon repeat playthroughs of the level. Da Vinci takes the player out onto a set of elevating platforms, which alternate based on layers. Here, the first Score Bubbles can be found placed in rows along the platforms. Collecting the bubbles in quick succession earns score multipliers. After a few sets of bubbles, a large set of Prize Bubbles can be collected to earn costumes. Upon reaching the final set, the middle descends, trapping the player with a Tutorial TV about the Hold to Retry function. Performing a Hold to Retry allows the player to proceed on to the next room.

The next room contains Prize Bubbles with stickers inside, as well as a Tutorial TV on how to place stickers. Applying the collected stickers to the appropriate Sticker Panels on Da Vinci's semi-self-portrait opens the proceeding door. More Prize Bubbles sit around the next room, but out of reach from normal jumps. The floors and walls open to reveal multiple Bounce Pads that allow the player to reach the bubbles. The next room expands on the Bounce Pad's functions by ascending up a bookcase. The final Tutorial TV teaches the player about the Playstation Eye function, before Da Vinci descends down and directs the player to the Scoreboard.
