Avalonia is the fourth theme in LittleBigPlanet 2's story mode and the creation of Avalon Centrifuge. The theme is centered around electronics and clinical, near-future styles.

Overview

Description

Avalonia formally introduces the controlinator gadget. Players must use the controlinator to navigate through Avalonia's levels, using a wide variety of robots that vary in their gameplay.

Plot overview

The Alliance, having rescued a sizeable Sackbot army from the ruins of the Factory Of A Better Tomorrow, travel up to Avalon Centrifuge's flying home of Avalonia. Upon their arrival, the Sackbot army offloads and prepares their training for the eventual battle against the Negativitron. Sackboy, Larry Da Vinci, and Clive Handforth rendezvous with Avalon inside his fortress' walls, where Avalon prepares a training course on handling his robotic creations. However, his lessons are cut short as the Negativitron breaks through Avalonia's defenses, sending down an army of meanies to crush the Alliance's resistance. Sackboy succeeds in fending off against the Negativitron, but only temporarily; the Negativitron makes a direct attack on the docked Huge Spaceship, disabling it and leaving the Sackbot army stranded in the wreckage.

The Alliance organizes a rescue mission to recover as many Sackbots as possible, before making a last-ditch effort to escape from Avalonia. Though their plan nearly succeeds, Huge Spaceship is intercepted by a meanie attack robot that sends it crashing back down to Avalonia — destroying both it and Avalon's home in the process. Stranded, with no other means of returning Huge Spaceship to working order, the Alliance sends Sackboy and Clive on a mission to find and liberate renowned inventor Dr. Herbert Higginbotham from Eve's Asylum For The Mentally Alternative.

Creator curator

Avalon Centrifuge is the creator curator of Avalonia. An arrogant, self-absorbed, yet skilled creator, Avalon perceives himself as the "Face of Science", the leader of the Alliance, and Craftworld's only hope against the Negativitron. Avalon serves as a guide and mentor throughout Avalonia, as he walks the player through the fundamentals of the controlinator, and how to use it to control his robot creations.

LittleBigPlanet 2's fourth story mode theme went under the name of Henry's Garage prior to Avalon Centrifuge being written in as the game's main antagonist and, later, supporting character. While largely the same in terms of art direction, it lacked any motifs relating to Avalon's character.
