Where In The World Is Avalon Centrifuge? is the third main level of the Cosmos. Whereas Full Metal Rabbit and this level's successor, Fight of the Bumblebees, both test players' abilities to control machines, this level is based purely around platforming and the grappling hook.
Overview
Plot Overview
After Sackboy deactivates the shield trapping the Alliance within Huge Spaceship's wreck, the army mobilizes and begins their attack on the Negativitron and its Meanies. Meanwhile, the Alliance searches for Avalon Centrifuge, who is still captive under the Meanie forces. Battling along the surface, Sackboy descends deeper into the Negativitron, where he finds Avalon imprisoned and guarded by a Meanie robot. Dispatching the Meanie with the help of Sackbot Shock Bots, Avalon is freed for a brief moment, before being snatched away by a massive robot. With Avalon in hand, the robot goes on a rampage while the Alliance makes a team effort to take it down. Sackboy climbs up through its body to expose its Meanie-infested brain, where a bomb sends the machine crumbling to the ground. With Avalon freed, he congratulates the Alliance on their team effort.
Walkthrough Guide
Upon entering the level, a grappling hook is automatically equipped and is first used to grab onto Larry Da Vinci's Bee. Da Vinci automatically carries you across a large chasm of fire to the first set of obstacles. Grabbable sponges and bounce pads must be used together to build enough momentum to cross platforms above fire hazards, the first of which has three prize bubbles placed above it. A second prize bubble sits just above a set of bounce pads, and two more next to the second grabbable sponge. Proceeding past these obstacles leads to the first Shock Bots being deployed. Shock Bots provide a means of destroying exposed Meanie enemies that otherwise kill players who make contact with them.
Past the Shock Bot dropship, two sponges in the ceiling must be lowered to allow the Shock Bots to continue forward. Grabbing each sponge lowers platforms with Meanies upon them, which the Shock Bots will destroy before continuing on; two prize bubbles sit near the bounce pads that provide passage up. Once the Shock Bots reach the second platform, they will destroy the Meanie wall blocking the way. If any Shock Bots are lost during these obstacles, more will be deployed, with the amount produced accounting for the amount lost. Continuing up a set of bounce pads and past two prize bubbles, a Meanie robot showcases the weak spots nearly all robot meanies contain, signified by the large pink walls within. The first robot's weak spot can be exposed by grabbing the sponge on its back; a lone prize bubble sits next to the bounce pads providing a way back up.
Past two prize bubbles is an idly rolling Meanie robot with a brain that can be popped to expose its insides. A Bee piloted by Dr. Herbert Higginbotham allows players to grab two prize bubbles above. Past a blockage cleared by the Shock Bots is another platform that must be lowered to act as a bridge, while also revealing a Meanie; a lone prize bubble can be accessed beneath, as well as another on the bridge. Past the bridge is a flying Meanie robot with another brain. Upon popping the brain, the Meanie uses its wings to pursue players before the Shock Bots dispatch it. A Bee flown by Eve Silva Paragorica leads to a set of three prize bubbles. The Shock Bots' progress is inhibited by a button-activated wall in the next room, guarded by two flying Meanies. Clive Handforth pilots a Bee that can be grabbed to reach two prize bubbles.
After the Shock Bots clear another blockage, a large room with three Meanies total can be overcome by grabbing onto Bees flown by Da Vinci and Victoria Von Bathysphere, which can also nab you four prize bubbles. The next room contains a rotating Meanie sentry inside it, with a 2-way switch on the farthest side. Every couple second, the Meanie will stop its focus on the player to send out a torrent of fire, instantly killing players caught in the path. Using bounce pads and Bees creates a path over to the switch, where activating it exposed the Meanie inside and lets the Shock Bots deal with the rest. Just past a large, explosive set piece is the level link to part two.
The first section of part two encompasses a multi-phase elevator battle to the bottom. The Shock Bots remain safe on the upper platform, but players must grab onto the lower part to deal with oncoming Meanie threats. To begin, two idle flying Meanies must have their brains popped to expose their insides, but upon doing so, they will slowly pursue and kill players that don't evade them. The second phase involves clearing three flying Meanies that will periodically flip upside down, hiding their brains, flying upwards, and exposing a spike-covered side. The third phase contains two prize bubbles and a Meanie sentry with two brains on either side of its spotlight. The sentry works fundamentally the same as the one encountered in part one, tracking players and stopping to shoot its beam of fire. The fourth and final phase contains one prize bubble and two sentries, each with single brains. Once the two sentries are taken care of, the elevator reaches the bottom and offloads the Shock Bots.
The following room contains a single prize bubble and Avalon Centrifuge; the latter is guarded by a giant robot Meanie. The Meanie has a consistent attack pattern, alternating between pulling its spike-tipped shield back and smashing it into the ground. Waiting for the shield to raise provides a path through, where grabbing the sponge at the top of the shield allows access to the robot's weak spot. Grabbing the weak spot exposes its face and allows the Shock Bots to finish it off. The giant robot smashes open the way to the level's final boss, comprising the climb up to its head. Past two large gaps of fire are its feet, which alternate between rising and falling to crush players or force them into the fire below; the second foot has a Bee trapped on the bottom which can be grabbed to swing over an otherwise unclearable gap. Grabbing and swinging between its legs, its right leg contains a prize bubble on the interior, with the left leg leading to the inside of its body.
The robot's chest involves a small obstacle involving walls of plasma and a fast-rotating sponge. Grabbing the sponge, riding it, and releasing at the right time avoids slamming into either wall of plasma, but releasing early can let you grab two risky prize bubbles. Inside the robot's right elbow is a prize bubble, and upon its right hand is a set of bounce pads leading up to its neck. A row of plasma sits just beneath the robot's jaw, and every couple of seconds it will open its mouth to fire a beam, causing its jaw to make contact with the plasma and any players caught beneath it. The boss can finally be taken down by bouncing off the pads on its left forearm, popping the creature brain on the side of its head, and entering to pull a 2-way switch to expose its brain. After a brief cutscene, all that remains is the scoreboard.
