This article is about the start point in the original LittleBigPlanet. For the LittleBigPlanet Karting start point, see Spawn Point.

An Entrance is an object that sets where players will first spawn when entering the level. They use the same spawning mechanics as Checkpoints, but have Sackboy's face engraved on the doors to visually differentiate them.

Overview

Placement

Entrances are circular, thick-layer objects that cannot be resized. Like Checkpoints, they occupy a sub-layer that allows Sackthings, collectables, and certain other objects to pass in front of them; this sub-layer has been referred to unofficially as "Theck".

All new levels come with an Entrance in the bottom-left corner of the level's boundaries, which players are encouraged to move to a more suitable location for their level. The game explicitly prevents the Popit Cursor from deleting Entrances and Checkpoints if doing so would leave the level with no spawn points, though it is still possible to get around this by destroying them through other means, such as crushing it with a heavy object, or activating an attached Destroyer.

If the player pulls out an Entrance from their Tools Bag in a level with no other spawn points, but backs out without actually placing one, the game forces that Entrance to be placed at the Popit Cursor's last position, even in situations where placing an object is usually forbidden, such as overlapping a solid object, or when the Thermometer has overheated.

Setting a Start Point

Entrances are intended to mark the start point of the level, with all players spawning at its location when play begins. If there are multiple Entrances in a level, the oldest one will become the designated start point when saving and reloading the level.

The game will always prefer to start at an Entrance if one is available, though any Checkpoint can act as a start point, including the one attached to Scoreboards. If there are no Entrances in a level, the game will instead set the oldest Checkpoint as the start point when saving and reloading. If there are no spawn points of any kind, the level will immediately end in failure when starting in Play Mode, as there is nowhere for players to spawn; loading such a level in Create Mode will spawn players in the bottom left corner as a failsafe.

In LittleBigPlanet 3, Entrances can be tweaked to be labelled start points; these can be referenced by Level Links, Scoreboards, and Progress Boards in an Adventure to start the player at different sections of the level depending on how they enter it.

Respawning

Entrances can be used as Checkpoints, and have three lives in reserve for this purpose, indicated by the glowing ring around the doors. If a player dies before reaching another Checkpoint, they will respawn at the Entrance, using up one of its lives. As with other Checkpoints, using up all of its lives will play a looping siren sound and causes the glowing ring to flash red; dying at this point ends the level in failure.

Entrances will remember the number of lives they had if a player activates another Checkpoint and reactivates the Entrance. An Entrance cannot be reactivated if its lives have been exhausted.

In LittleBigPlanet 3, Entrances can be tweaked to have an infinite number of lives.
