Bolts can be placed onto most solid objects, though unlike gadgets, they can only be placed on the front of objects, and cannot be rotated while held with the Popit Cursor. When placing a bolt onto an object, if another object is one layer behind the target, the two objects will automatically be bolted together once placed, rotating around the bolt's position. Alternatively, a bolt can be placed on an isolated object, then moved in front of another object with the Popit Cursor; a power drill sound effect will play to confirm the connection; this method does not work in LittleBigPlanet on PSP though.
Placing and Detaching Bolts
Bolts can be placed onto any solid object, similar to Gadgets. Unlike Gadgets, Bolts will automatically snap to the front face objects, and cannot be rotated while held with the Popit Cursor.

The models used by bolts are split into two components that rotate with the bolted objects. For example, on a Motor Bolt, the interior copper wiring rotates with the object in front, while the beige outer casing rotates with the object behind it.
When placing a Bolt, it will automatically snap to the estimated center of the target object. Note that this center is not the center of mass, but the average center between all the vertices of the object.
If an object is within a layer behind the target object, both objects will automatically be bolted together once placed, making a bolt-group at a pivot point at the Bolt's position.
Selecting either part of a bolt-group and pressing triangle will break the group.

The two bolted objects rotate in different directions from one another, e.g. if a Motor Bolt is set to rotate Clockwise, the front object will rotate clockwise, but the back object will actually rotate counter-clockwise, and vice-versa.
When a Bolt is not part of a group, a new group can be made by positioning the target object within a layer of an object behind it and pressing cross.
This will Bolt the two objects together and a power drill sound effect will play to confirm the connection, with the target object being deselected.

By pressing L3 instead of cross, the target object can be duplicated instead of deselected.

Re-attaching Bolts with these methods does not work on LittleBigPlanet PSP.

Most bolts have their own set of tweaks, but all four share a Strength tweak, known as Tightness in the original LittleBigPlanet, which affects how susceptible the bolted object is to external forces. How this is used in practice varies slightly depending on the bolt type, and will be detailed in their respective sections. The other tweaks shared between bolts are as follows:

Safety first!
This page is a work in progress. As a result, the layout and/or content herein may be subject to change.
To do:
 • Document how the outputs work.
 • Add the Wobble Bolt's tweaks.

Overview

A Bolt is a type of Connector that joins two objects on adjacent layers, rotating them on a pivot point. There are four main predefined types of Bolts that rotate objects in different ways.

Usage and behaviour

Placing and Detaching Bolts

Bolts can be placed onto any solid object, similar to Gadgets. Unlike Gadgets, Bolts will automatically snap to the front face objects, and cannot be rotated while held with the Popit Cursor.

Selecting either part of a bolt-group and pressing Triangle button will break the group.

When a Bolt is not part of a group, a new group can be made by positioning the target object within a layer of an object behind it and pressing Cross button. This will Bolt the two objects together and a power drill sound effect will play to confirm the connection, with the target object being deselected.

By pressing L3 button instead of Cross button, the target object can be duplicated instead of deselected.

Re-attaching Bolts with these methods does not work on LittleBigPlanet PSP.

Behavior

Bolted objects will rotate in different directions from one another; e.g. if a Motor Bolt is set to rotate Clockwise, the front object will rotate Clockwise while the back object will rotate Anti-Clockwise, and vice-versa.

Some of the models for Bolts are split into two components that rotate with each object the Bolt is connected to. For the Motor Bolt, the interior copper wiring will rotate with the object in front, while the brass outer casing will rotate with the object behind it.

Shared tweaks

While the predefined Bolt types have their own set of tweaks, all Bolts share a Strength tweak, known as Tightness in the original LittleBigPlanet. This tweak affects how susceptible the bolt-group is to external forces. How this is used in practice varies slightly depending on the bolt type, and will be detailed in their respective sections. The other tweaks shared between bolts are as follows:
