The Paintinator is a powerup that allows the player to shoot coloured paintballs. First introduced in the Metal Gear Solid Pack for the original LittleBigPlanet, it is arguably the most influential powerup in the series, defining the look and feel of many subsequent powerups, and serving as the basis for the Creatinator in the game's sequel.
Overview
The Paintinator can be equipped by running past it, either on the same layer or within two adjacent layers of it. When holding the Paintinator, the player can aim the gun by pushing in any direction, and shoot paintballs with . Holding the button shoots at a rate of four balls per-second (one ball every 0.2 seconds), but the gun also fires the instant it detects an input; a faster rate of fire can be achieved by mashing the button instead of holding it.
In addition to leaving behind a colourful mess, paintballs can activate Paintinator Switches and kill unprotected Creature Brains. Being physical objects, they can also push lightweight objects, set off Impact Explosives, and (briefly) press buttons.
Ammo
The Paintinator has a glowing ammo tank above the gun's barrel, which changes to match the user's Popit colour. The player's ammo count is set by the last Paintinator pedestal they ran past; Paintinators contain infinite ammo by default, but if the pedestal's ammo count is set to a non-zero value, the glowing tank will deplete as the player fires paintballs; when it runs out, the player cannot shoot again until they reach another pedestal.
Tweaks
Ammo: (1 - 1,000) Sets how many paintballs the player can fire with this Paintinator. Setting this value below 1 will grant the player infinite ammo. |
Can Be Dropped: ( ) If set to Yes, the player can discard the powerup by pressing . If set to No, it can only be removed by a Powerup Remover or dying. |
Other Appearances
- LittleBigPlanet Karting
- The Paintinator appears as one of the stock weapons in LittleBigPlanet Karting, firing three quick bursts of paintballs that cause karts to lose traction for a few seconds.
