This page is a work in progress.
As a result, the layout and/or content herein may be subject to change.

The mythical TGS Move Demo Prototype of LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3, is considered to be a treasure trove of unreleased and scrapped contents of varying qualities and quantities relating to the development of the first LittleBigPlanet title. One of the most striking discoveries is the over-abundance of mostly playable Levels ranging from rigid to well-developed gameplay concepts, early variants of both pre-existing and forgotten Story and DLC Levels, palette grids of contents for various Themes and downloadable contents, and so much more.

There is much information to go over, and this page aims to document every single unique instance that can be possibly explored.

Overview

In this Prototype Build, there is estimated to be around 1920+ BIN Files to document. Due to the amount of Levels and the stipulations around the way some of them tend to function, there will be a list detailing the format in which this documentation will be informed below.

Directory Description

Here will be a short description for the directory as a whole. Every Level will be sorted by the oldest GUID available. Some retail Levels are contained within these directories already, so those will not be listed if they are the exact same as their already released counterparts.

Sub-Directory Description

A second description to describe another, smaller directory located within the major directory.

00_developer_levels_episode_1

The directory where all finalized Story Themes are located. While this is where the retail release Levels for the Story Mode can be found, there are also plenty of scrapped Levels and oddities to document here.

england_garden

The directory for Levels relating to The Gardens Story Theme. This Build contains a few extra Levels in this folder that are not present within the retail release of the game.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status
pal_england_garden_mg_skipping.bin Duplicate of a Level with the same filename within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. Nothing to note outside of the fact that this is a Palette Level. g26357 Loadable
england_garden_ml_mushroom.bin Duplicate of a Level with the same filename within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. Nothing to note outside of the possibility that this Level was being reconsidered for the game, hence why it can be found in this directory as it is. g26377 Working
england_garden_ml_see_saw_2.bin This Mini-Level is a finalized and much more polished version of a Mini-Level by the same filename within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. Dumpty is present within this Level; though using the finalized design, hasn't yet been replaced by Little Xim. Dumpty mentions that this is the second Castle Climb, confirming that there would have been more Levels past the first Castle Climb Challenge from retail. Outside the Level in Create Mode, you can see a large floating ring of decorations, the same pattern and items used for the scoreboard's decorations. g26379 Completable
england_garden_ml_see_saw_3.bin This Mini-Level is a similar case to the instance above, this time adding a small set of hazardous waters at the bottom for an extra challenge. Dumpty is once again present and claims that this is the third and final Castle Climb Challenge. The ring of floating decorations is still present; but this time to the left of the Level near the entrance if out of bounds, one can discover a mushroom tree, a Basic Sponge block and Basic Wood platform if in Create Mode. g26380 Completable
england_garden_ml_stars.bin Duplicate of a Level with the same filename within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. Nothing to note outside of the possibility that this Level was being reconsidered for the game, hence why it can be found in this directory as it is. g26381 Completable
england_garden_ml_pull_cart.bin
Main article: TEMP LINK.

This is a new and unique Mini-Level possibly developed sometime during the spring/summer of 2008 due to the early model of Dumpty being present. Despite Dumpty being able to be cracked open, no score bubbles are found within. This Level is referenced as the Horse Play Challenge, and is likely the actual name of this Level. The goal is to drag and use the Small Wooden Steed to collect many score bubbles and reach the end as fast as you can. Out of bounds, you can find a series of hill assets made up of both Basic Wood and Green Floral Fabric Materials, though they are floating and the fabric is not grabbable.

england_garden_cc_birdshoot.bin
Main article: TEMP LINK.

This is another unique Mini-Level intended for The Gardens, where you'll have to use a Sticker (seemingly any Sticker) to try and knock multiple Birdy on String that are attached to balloons out of the sky and collect Score Bubbles. However, if you miss the birds approximately seven times, you'll fall to the bottom of the map and the challenge is over. There is no Scoreboard present, so falling to the bottom will be considered the end of the Level. The numbers that warn the player on how many attempts they have left are unique, and are made out of the Black Scribble Sticker. A Prize Bubble for the Fired Egg Sticker is also present within the playable area. At the bottom you may find a Smart Hovel Object clipping with the rest of the structure, and an early version of the attempt wheel mechanism hidden behind it. Oddly enough, beyond the playable area to the left of the level, you can actually find a featureless layout of the beginning segment of the First Steps Main Level.

africa

The directory for Levels relating to The Savannah Story Theme. This Build contains a few extra Levels in this folder that are not present within the retail release of the game.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status

africa_ml_giraffes.bin An updated version of its predecessor within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. This time around. the Level is set during the day, and 'Tapha Niang' plays with the finalized Boombox Object design.

africa_ml_meerkat_smash.bin Extremely similar to its predecessor within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. Only difference is that 'Tapha Niang' plays within this Level.

england_seaside

The directory for Levels relating to the scrapped Seaside Story Theme. This directory isn't found anywhere in the retail game.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status
england_seaside_main_sand_castle.bin Almost identical to the variant found in the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. One thing to note is that the early Boombox Gameplay Object was replaced with its retail iteration, this time playing the English Seaside IntMusic track (which later became 'Tea By The Sea'), instead of My Patch. g27221 Working

japan_zen_garden

The directory for Levels relating to The Islands Story Theme. This Build contains a few extra Levels in this folder that are not present within the retail release of the game.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status
japan_zen_ml_hopity_hop.bin A slightly updated variant of its predecessor within the wip_developer_levels_episode_1 directory. This time, the Islands Background is used with its nighttime lighting, and multiple instances of the Fire Hazard is present. g29832 Completable
japan_zen_ml_climb_the_tower.bin Seemingly an early variant of the Roller Castle Mini-Level. It is pretty similar to the retail variant, though the green wheels are gone and are instead red, and like most of the Mini-Levels of this era, Little Xim is nowhere to be seen. The ground also has a unique structure made up of Basic Stone cut up into slices, which adds a kind of cracked stone aesthetic. There are also a few palette wheels outside of the playable area, that also includes a shuriken wheel, meaning that there may have been dangers planned to be present within the Level; yet none are present in the playable area. g42362 Completable
japan_zen_main_2_opt.bin This level needs to be looked further into by the Page Authors.

Seems to be a slightly earlier variant of Sensei's Lost Castle. The Level is mostly the same other than a few small differences such as the Flame Throwing Cat Object having vibrant blue fur instead of its usual orange coloring, and the Sumo Wrestlers at the end of the Level are already active before they drop own into the playable area.

russia_snow_wilderness

The directory for Levels relating to The Wilderness Story Theme. This Build contains a few extra Levels in this folder that are not present within the retail release of the game.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status
russia_snow_mg_tetris.bin This one is a unique Mini-Game that is based off of the iconic gameplay of Tetris. It uses a complex logic system to determine when a row of blocks are filled, and which shapes will spawn. The player will be stuck in the middle of it using a Jetpack, and trying to fit in the blocks before you get squashed. If you do manage to lose, you will spawn at the Scoreboard. This Level is also entirely unfurnished, and uses a blank background set in the nighttime lighting.
g39242 Completable
russia_snow_ml_jumper_tank.bin This is also a unique Mini-Level where you must use the Jumper Tank Object to roll, blast and jump your way through the snowy tundra! There are two tanks present, the main retail version and an older unfinished model missing the jump mechanic. The only issue is that the main tank also cannot jump, due to the mechanism being broken; although once you blast your way through a few set of walls in the first half of the Level, you can simply walk the rest of your way to the Scoreboard without too much trouble.
g50892 Completable
end_and_start.bin This Level only contains the singular scoreboard area of The Bunker Main Level. There is a bit of snow built around it, suggesting that this may have originated from an earlier variant of the Level. Despite the fact that the Checkpoint is right next to the Scoreboard, the flooring that holds the Scoreboard is too high up to reach by any normal means. g56220 Working

introduction

A directory simply containing both the retail Introduction and an earlier variant that is fairly unique.

Bin Filename Description GUID Status
intro_level_photos.bin
Main article: TEMP LINK.

This level seems to be an unfinished and early variant of the retail Introduction; with the layout being very different, having many empty cardboard polaroids at the beginning of the Level, with no developer face stickers in sight. Some interesting things to note is that there are many more arrows than normal, and the scrapped Doodled PlayStation 3 sticker is present. The end of the level is where it starts to resemble the final variant, though the LittleBigPlanet sign is different, and even uses a Basic Sponge material with a different bevel.

grapple_test_1.bin A short but fun Level that demonstrates various gameplay concepts for the Grapple Hook.

motion_controller.bin A whiteboxed concept of a Level that uses and demonstrates Motion Controller functionality in LittleBigPlanet's engine. motion_controller_2.bin Second revision of motion_controller_2.bin, now art passed with a theme set in a Savannah-esque Level. Like the first revision, early LittleBigPlanet 2 content is still utilized - and though the Level is still broken due to the lack of Motion Controller functionality in the Build, a working version of the Level can be seen in an upload by Janglez311 on Youtube.com.[1] where the Level was used to showcase Motion Controller functionality in LittleBigPlanet at Sony's 2009 Tokyo Game Show. This is also the exact Level the Build boots into by default.
