Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves, known as LittleBigPlanet: LiBits and Play Stick (リトルビッグプラネット™ リビッツとあそ棒。) in Japan, is a spin-off game designed to show off the capabilities of the PlayStation Move Motion Controller. It is the first entry in the Sackboy subseries, and the third LittleBigPlanet title overall. The game is a cooperative 2.5D puzzle platformer set in the stone age, in which up to five players (one Motion Controller, and up to four DualShock controllers) travel through 10 prehistoric-themed levels centred around manipulating the environment.

Developed by Supermassive Games and Sony XDev Europe using a modified version of the original LittleBigPlanet, Prehistoric Moves was initially released as a free download for PlayStation Plus subscribers on December 7, 2010 in North America (December 8 in Europe) before being made available for everyone to purchase one week later.[1] Starting in January 2011, it was bundled with physical copies of LittleBigPlanet 2. The game would not see a Japanese release until February 10, the same day that LittleBigPlanet 2 launched in the region.

Gameplay

A PlayStation Move Motion Controller, and by extension a PlayStation Eye Camera, is required in order to play. The game is a cooperative affair designed for at least two people which plays similarly to the original LittleBigPlanet, though the levels are populated with glowing pink materials that can be grabbed with the Motion Controller's cursor. Depending on the object they're attached to these pink materials do different things, from triggering switches and launchers to creating platforms or warding off hazards.

In each of the five main levels are five Special Bubbles. Collecting them contributes to unlocking trophies, but unlike Prize Bubbles they do not unlock new materials, objects or stickers for use in the main games.

Development

While not much is known about the development of Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves, it was initially unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2009 as part of a PlayStation Move demo. No specific name was given to the project at this stage, though the level showcased appears to have been set in the Savannah.[2] A few months later the game was shown off at the 2010 Game Developer Conference, this time with a level based on the History Level Kit.[3]

Reception

Legacy

Despite running on the same engine as the original LittleBigPlanet, Create Mode and all of the other community features are disabled by default. On November 19, 2015, all of the materials, costumes, objects and more from this game were made available in LittleBigPlanet 3 through Sackboy's Prehistoric Asset Pack.
