The Negativitron is the main antagonist and final boss of LittleBigPlanet 2. An ancient and cosmic evil, the Negativitron proves an existential threat to Craftworld and its creations.
History
LittleBigPlanet 2
The Negativitron debuts in LittleBigPlanet 2, making its sudden arrival after the Introduction. Following its failure to capture Sackboy, the Negativitron appears in every location along the Alliance's journey. After Larry Da Vinci and Sackboy embark on their trip to Victoria's Laboratory, the Negativitron beats them there, kidnapping and corrupting Victoria Von Bathysphere's Sackbot army. As the Alliance pursues the remaining Sackbots to The Factory Of A Better Tomorrow, the Negativitron outpaces them once again, reducing the factory to ruins and either stealing or brainwashing much of the machinery within. When the Alliance arrives safely at Avalonia for training, the Negativitron invades and impedes their escape, leaving them stranded in the wreckage of the facility.
With the Alliance's Huge Spaceship having been grounded, the Negativitron foresees their attempts to cure inventor and Creator Curator Dr. Herbert Higginbotham of his Meanie-induced madness. Before Clive Handforth and Sackboy can make safe passage through Eve's Asylum, the Negativitron sets the asylum ablaze, filling it with Sackbot Meanies. After thwarting the Negativitron's attempts, a cured Higginbotham helps the Alliance finish their departure out of Avalonia. As Huge Spaceship makes its way through The Cosmos, the Negativitron intercepts the ship, sending it crashing down over its planetary surface. During the Alliance's final push towards the Negativitron's heart, it finally engages Sackboy in direct battle, resulting in the destruction of the heart and the Negativitron's subsequent demise.
Run Sackboy! Run!
The Negativitron is featured prominently in gameplay and marketing the mobile spin-off Run Sackboy! Run!, where it functions as an idle threat to punish players moving too slow.
Development
In early outlines for LittleBigPlanet 2's story mode, the Negativitron lacked characterization while still retaining a similar function in the plot; instead, the main antagonist role would be filled by another creator curator - one of which was Avalon Centrifuge. Referred to as the Sucker (also the Hoover or Spacevac), it was a malicious creation that produced Popovs. Character dynamics were simplified over time, with Avalon's character being overhauled and the Negativitron taking the role as the main antagonist.
General Information
Physical Appearance
The Negativitron appears as a giant, black vacuum cleaner. Its face features four orange eyes, as well as pink horns and teeth shared in common with much of its Meanie minions. The Negativitron's head connects to its body through a massive vacuum tube. Its body is composed of a giant, planet-like mass composed of scrap metal, clay, and everything else it has sucked up from around Craftworld. Its heart, a pulsating cuboid substance, resides deep within its body.
Personality
The Negativitron speaks very little, and nearly all of its appearances lead to invasion and destruction. It is purely malevolent, with no other intentions apparent beyond wishing to bring about Craftworld's end.
