Victoria's Laboratory is the second theme of LittleBigPlanet 2, and the creation Victoria Von Bathysphere; it is designed around sweets and science experiments.

Overview

Description

Victoria's Laboratory introduces the grabinators and creatinator power-ups, which players must use to defeat enemies and create improvised platforms.

Plot overview

Sackboy and Larry Da Vinci arrive on foot at Victoria's Laboratory, witnessing its invasion by the Negativitron. Victoria Von Bathysphere flees her house by train but stops once spotting the two Alliance members. With her Sackbot army either stolen away or reduced to mutated meanies, Victoria begs the Alliance to help her reclaim her home.

The three board Victoria's train back to her laboratory, though the Negativitron makes multiple attempts to impede their progress. Once inside the gates of Victoria's property, Sackboy clears out the hordes of meanies lurking within and disables the brainwave machine responsible for producing them. Possessed by the Negativitron, the brainwave machine returns to life soon after, pursuing Sackboy to the top of Victoria's house; Sackboy destroys the machine, leaving the laboratory in a state of disarray.

Larry Da Vinci spots the remains of the Sackbot army marching through the entrance of the Factory Of A Better Tomorrow and accompanies Sackboy on a rescue mission - while Victoria cleans up the mess left behind.

Victoria Von Bathysphere is the titular creator curator of Victoria's Laboratory. A clever, insecure, and self-accusatory inventor, Victoria is responsible for the creation of the Sackbot army which is stolen away and mutated by the Negativitron.

History

Development

During pre-production of LittleBigPlanet 2, art and music direction for Victoria's Laboratory followed the pitch of "19th century Frankenstein experiments" and "B-movie". At this point, much of the Victorian theming belonged to Popov Factory, the original third story theme predating the Factory Of A Better Tomorrow. After the prior theme was cut, these elements were partially merged with Victoria's Laboratory, though the theme later received multiple revisions that led to its further distinction from the industrial steampunk style of Popov Factory.
