Spawn Points are gameplay objects in LittleBigPlanet Karting which determine how many players the level can support, where karts will appear at the start of a race, where they can respawn in a battle, and where they can appear during a pre-race or post-race cutscene. They also apply logic to whichever kart spawns there.

Overview

A Spawn Point is placed in the same manner as other objects; they have no collision, and will not be visible in Play Mode or Test Drive. There are three types of Spawn Point, which are differentiated by the colour of their lights: white for standard Spawn Points, pink for Arena ReSpawn Points, and green for Movie Spawn Points.

All three Spawn Point types have one input and one output each: the input is used to turn the Spawn Point on or off, while the output sends a digital ON signal when a player begins to respawn.

Basic Spawn Point

The basic white Spawn Point is used to create player slots, and apply logic to karts during gameplay. Eight of these are automatically generated upon creating a race track or battle arena.

At least one human enabled spawn point must exist in the level to enter Test Drive, though it is possible to save and then play the level from My Moon if there are no human enabled spawn points — although the effects of this vary depending on the game mode. In a race, human players will spawn at default locations in front of the start line, but there will be no AI drivers present unless slots are reserved for them. If all eight player slots are filled by AI racers, the human players will not spawn. On the other hand, battles are rendered completely unplayable if no Spawn Points are present; the camera gets stuck under the terrain, and no players end up spawning.

Logic gadgets can be attached to a Spawn Point, and will be executed at the position of whichever player spawns there. The game has a set of fourteen Kart Tweakers specifically designed to take advantage of this, but any logic gadgets in the Tools Bag can be used in this manner. Note that a Spawn Point's logic is only applied to the kart that initially spawns there when a match starts; any karts that die and respawn from a given Spawn Point will not inherit its logic.

Arena ReSpawn Point

An Arena ReSpawn Point determines where a player can respawn from in a battle. When a player dies or gets reset (either by a Reset gadget or manually with Select), they will respawn at the closest active respawn point on their team.

Unlike the other Spawn Points, logic attached to an Arena ReSpawn Point is not applied to karts that spawn there; it is purely for respawning.

As their name suggests, Arena ReSpawn Points are intended for battle mode; race tracks use a separate respawning system, so they will not work out of the box if used on a race track. However, a Reset gadget is able to send its host to a labelled ReSpawn Point, regardless of game mode.

Movie Spawn Point

A Movie Spawn Point only activates during a pre-race or post-race cinematic. They function similarly to basic Spawn Points in that karts that spawn from a Movie Spawn Point inherit whatever logic is placed onto it.

Tweaks

Player Type: (
Any •‎
Players Only •‎
Player Or Sackbot •‎
Hoard Only
)

Determines which kinds of drivers will appear here.
Any
Any player or bot can occupy this slot. If a human is not available, an AI driver will spawn here instead.
Players Only
Only human players can occupy this slot. If there are not enough humans to occupy all available 'Player Only' spawn points, a bot will still be created, but it will be trapped under the floor if a valid (re)spawn point doesn't exist.
Player Or Sackbot
Any player or bot can occupy this slot, but humans are given priority. If a human is not available, an AI Sackbot will spawn here instead.
Hoard Only
Only AI Hoard drivers can spawn here.
Team: (
Team One •‎
Team Two •‎
Team Three •‎
Team Four •‎
Team Five •‎
Team Six •‎
Team Seven •‎
Team Eight •‎
Any Team
)

Sets a team for the Spawn Point. How this gets used depends on which Spawn Point type it is.
  • On a normal Spawn Point, this assigns a team to whichever kart spawns here. If this is set to "Any Team", a team will not be assigned to this kart.
  • On an Arena ReSpawn Point, this determines which team is allowed to spawn here.
Human Priority: (
Player One •‎
Player Two •‎
Player Three •‎
Player Four •‎
Player Five •‎
Player Six •‎
Player Seven •‎
Player Eight •‎
Any
)

If "Player Type" is set to "Players Only", this determines which player will spawn here.
Label: (text field; 64 characters)
Opens the system keyboard to type a Spawn Point label. This is used by some gadgets to determine which spawn point to appear from after a death or manual reset.
