Sackpocket

The Sackpocket is an Adventure wide inventory system in LittleBigPlanet 3 that allows the player to store up to five unique powerups, which can be used anywhere in the current Adventure. Any character can collect items and add them to the Sackpocket, but only Sackboy can access the inventory and use the items within.

Overview

The Sackpocket can store up to five unique items. In clockwise order, this one contains the Pumpinator, Blink Ball, Hook Hat, Boost Boots, and Illuminator.

The Sackpocket is a radial menu that can be opened and closed by pressing Circle. The menu is divided into five sections, one for each item slot. Pushing Left Stick rotates the highlight towards the closest occupied slot in that direction, and pressing X equips the item in that slot. Selecting an item that is already equipped will de-equip it.

Powerups that are equipped from the Sackpocket will be automatically re-equipped if they are removed in certain situations, such as entering/exiting a body of water, grabbing and letting go of grabbable/climbable objects, or dying and respawning. Walking through a Powerup Remover will remove it on a more permanent basis, however, the player can always open the Sackpocket menu to re-equip it.

The Sackpocket's contents are saved to the current Adventure's save file, so the player retains the powerups they've collected if they leave and return at a later date. This also allows Sackpocket Items obtained in one level to be used in another, provided that the Sackpocket is enabled in the level's Gameplay Controls.

Sackpocket Item Types

Sackpocket Items behave differently depending on the nature of the object that was captured with the Capture Sackpocket Item Tool.

  • If the object is a core powerup, such as the Creatinator or Grabinators, equipping the Sackpocket Item will automatically equip that powerup with any custom properties intact.
  • If the object has a Blaster Handle attached to it, equipping it will attach it to Sackboy's hand, where it can then be aimed with Right Stick and activated with R1.
  • If the object has a Throwable Handle attached to it, equipping it will also attach it to Sackboy's hand. The player can then aim it with Right Stick and throw it by pressing R1. Throwing a throwable powerup will de-equip the powerup and decrement the player's stock of that item by 1.
  • If the object doesn't match any of the above cases, equipping it will simply spawn that object at the player's position, decrementing their stock of that item by 1.

Inventory Management

Items can be added to the Sackpocket by walking over a Sackpocket Pedestal, or by activating a Sackpocket Tweaker. Items fill the available slots in clockwise order starting from the top, and cannot be reorganised without removing and re-adding them.

The Sackpocket can hold five unique powerups at a time, and either an infinite supply or a finite stock (up to 32,766) of each. The Sackpocket Pedestal will always grant an infinite supply of whatever item it contains, while Sackpocket Tweakers can be set to only give a finite stock of an item; it can even be set to take items away.
