LittleBigPlanet 3, abbreviated as LBP3, is the final LittleBigPlanet game released for the PlayStation 3, the first on PlayStation 4, and the eighth installment in the overall series. It introduces three new playable characters, an increased layer limit - from three to sixteen - the ability to create custom characters and powerups, various tools for creating multi-level adventures and a plethora of quality of life improvements, all while maintaining compatibilty with user generated content from its predecessors.

While Media Molecule supplied the engine and offered guidance in the early stages of production, the majority of development was spearheaded by Sheffield-based developer Sumo Digital, who previously worked on the Cross-Controller Pack for LittleBigPlanet 2. The game was released in late November 2014 to mostly positive critical reception. While praised for its visuals, additions to Create Mode and new gameplay elements, LittleBigPlanet 3 has since garnered an unfortuante reputation as the weakest entry in the main series due to its numerous technical issues and the short length of its Adventure Mode compared to past entries.

While both versions were maintained for much of the game's life, the PlayStation 3 version was discontinued on September 13, 2021, following extended downtime, with the PlayStation 4 version being the only one that can still be played online.
