The concept art on the right, drawn by Doug Telford,[1] was made for LittleBigPlanet Star Wars, a pitch by Sumo Digital that served as a stepping stone in the development of LittleBigPlanet 3. Very little is known about the project; it was never publicly announced, but an anonymous source familiar with the project had mentioned its existence through a series of emails. It was an initial greenlight pitch to Sony for a licensed LittleBigPlanet game. It didn't pan out, but development of this project ended up merging into what became LittleBigPlanet 3.

Yeah and it was erm, at the time it was, the idea was to do something that had a license attached to, which is kind of Sumo's area of expertise. And so erm, came out of the blue, Pete rang me up and said; "How would you feel about pitching for this?" And erm, obviously I got super excited. It was the most exciting opportunity we've had, in uh 7 or 8 years at the time. So we did a pitch for this licensed version of LBP; That didn't actually come to anything, but you liked the treatment didn't you? And then Pete phoned up a few weeks later, and said "How about what if it wasn't a license? What about if it was LBP3?". At which point I basically crumbled with excitement, with fear, with dread, with awe, with everything. And we said "Yeah, good god please can we!?" And the ball started running from there!
