To do: Comparisons between this version and the final game.

The LittleBigPlanet Karting Public Beta is a beta trial version of LittleBigPlanet Karting for the PlayStation 3. Registrations were first opened to the public on June 27, 2012,[1] with the beta itself running from July 10 to the 31st,[2] after which Sony revealed in a blog post that nearly 350 levels had been uploaded every day from over 125,000 participants.[3]

The package file for the US version had been floating around the internet for several years, albeit with no accompanying license, and thus no way to actually run the build. The license was finally dumped by an anonymous contributor in 2021 and released to the public as part of the Imagisphere 2023 Mega Release. Even with a valid license, the beta will not boot from the XMB on original hardware due to an expiration date (August 1, 2012) built into the executable. A patched EBOOT.BIN file that bypasses this restriction has been provided alongside the original.

Overview

Upon booting the beta, the player is presented with a message informing them about what to expect from the full game, after which they are left to their own devices. Alongside a small selection of costumes, stickers, objects, and other items, the beta offers a selection of story levels for participants to try out, including:
