Sony has occasionally hosted official beta trials for upcoming LittleBigPlanet games and feature updates, offering small portions of work-in-progress Story Mode levels and unrestricted access to the level creation tools. While primarily done to gather bug reports and feedback prior to launch, they have also served as marketing tools, since levels created by participants have been featured in promotional material. Being created in the middle of development, these beta builds usually have differences from their final release versions.
