The LittleBigPlanet September 17th, 2009 prototype, otherwise known as the "LittleBigPlanet TGS 2009 Move Demo" or simply the "Deploy Build", is regarded as one of the most monumental discoveries in the preservation space of the LBP Community, described as a "holy grail" of assets. While created as a prototype of the original LittleBigPlanet for the PlayStation 3, it also serves as a stepping-stone for the eventual creation of Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves containing the very Motion Controller features used for the title.

Shown off at a presentation during Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2009 press conference, this build heavily disguises itself as a simple Tech Demo. This is only the surface of what this prototype truly contains, as within the game's files can be found dozens of assets that span as far back as late 2006, all the way to late 2009. This includes many items used in the 2009-Era LittleBigPlanet 2 development, reminiscent of the scrapped Arcade DLC that eventually became the second title.

Overview

Upon starting the game without proper modifications, the Pod will be entirely absent; only allowing you to play one simple Level with limited features including the previously mentioned motion controls. This is the very Level presented at TGS 2009, and as far as you can get without modifying the gamefiles. Completing the Level will display a special TGS 2009 Scoreboard Screen, but will require you to restart the Level entirely. Pressing the "Return to Pod" button will result in the same outcome.

Though hidden within the game itself, lies 1920+ BIN files, ranging from developer tests, gameplay concepts, asset palettes and early variations of various story and DLC Levels, and a plethora of PLAN files containing all sorts of unique customization and creative items; all created during the 2006 to 2009 period. This includes both post-release content involving various canned DLC, early creations and concepts ranging from Milestone Era assets to the likes of the more modern English Seaside, American Mid-West, Japanese Akihabara and Russian Theatre scrapped Themes, to the foundations that would soon form LittleBigPlanet 2, and much more.

There were also various debug symbols discovered. This marks the Deploy Build as the first prototype to surface with these debug symbols, which will assist with reverse-engineering the entirety of the LBP franchise.

History

As mentioned previously, this build was specifically created to be showcased as the Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2009 press conference event. Here, they display the full variety of motion controls and their concepts for Move Controller integration, going through all the obstacles until they reached the end. They then showcase information about the Move Controllers themselves soon after. Eventually, the build had been sitting on a PS3 Development Kit for many years, before resurfacing much later.

The initial source that discovered the Deploy Build retrieved it from a PS3 DECR-1000A Reference Tool found within a lot of development units circulating for sale back in 2016. These were originally used by Supermassive Games, and later decommissioned. This data was kept on an external HDD for years, which had to go under data recovery and repairs due to hardware failure, but was eventually sold to someone privately. MysteriousCube and a close friend eventually reached out to the buyer to initiate a negotiation, relaying messages back to the source. Eventually a deal was reached and the duo had obtained the kit, and released the build as the finale of the Mega Release 2021 event held within the Imagisphere Community Discord Server.
