A Tag, known as a Magnetic Key in the original LittleBigPlanet, is a gadget that can be used in combination with the Tag Sensor and various other gadgets to identify non-player objects in a level.
Usage and behaviour
Tags can be placed onto any surface or circuit board. On their own they don't do anything, but they can be assigned one of eight colours and, starting with LittleBigPlanet 2, a label, which allows it to be used as an activator or target for a huge variety of gadgets. Sensors will only detect tags if their colours and labels match.
In LittleBigPlanet 2, Tags gained an input, which is used to turn it on or off with logic. Tags will transmit whatever signal they receive, be it digital or analogue. Most gadgets only use the digital signal to detect its presence, however, Tag Sensors can be tweaked to output the signal strength of any Tags in their detection range.
Tweaks
Tag Colour: (
) Sets the colour channel for the gadget. Sensors will only detect Tags matching this colour. |
Select or Tweak a Tag Label Opens a dialogue box to create a new Tag label, or select an existing one. |
Visuals
Visible to Radar (LBPK only): ( No; Yes) If set to Yes, a star-shaped marker will appear on the HUD in Play Mode to indicate the Tag's position, even when the Tag is off-screen. |
Visible in Play Mode: ( ) Determines whether or not the object will be rendered in Play Mode. |
Removed Key Alternatives
A few additional versions of Magnetic Keys were planned for LBP2, but were later scrapped in favor of Labels. They would have operated on separate detection fields from normal Magnetic Keys.
Impact Key
The Impact Key was a type of Magnetic Key designed to be used with the Impact Sensor. It features a similar design to the Impact Sensor's early design, but the screen matches the Key Color and it lacks the Impact Sensor's colored nodules.

Look-At Key
The Look-At Key was a type of Magnetic Key designed to be used with the Follower and Look-At Rotator. Its model is the same as the early Look-At Rotator but is colored completely red except for the light, which displays the Key Color.
