The Popov's Domain was the eighth and final theme of LittleBigPlanet 2's story mode during early development, designed around human anatomy.

Overview

During pre-production for LittleBigPlanet 2, the Popov's Domain was designed as the final theme of the game's story mode, with the Cosmos as the penultimate. Its name refers to the popovs, one of the game's original antagonistic factions prior to being revised as the meanies. Following the sequel's design pitch of "science through the ages", the theme was roughly based on the human body.

Described by soundtrack composer Kenneth Young in one of its few explicit mentions, music direction for the Popov's Domain was informed by its art direction, being based on the "awe of the human body", and other experimental genres. By the latter half of 2009, the Popov's Domain was phased out of development, and LittleBigPlanet 2's story mode condensed from eight themes to six. While the Cosmos became the final theme from a combination of its earlier revision and concepts from Higginbotham's Mind, the pitch for the Popov's Domain was recycled for Invasion Of The Body Invaders.

Currently, the Popov's Domain largely exists in name only, with minimal knowledge of how far it was developed prior to being cut. Despite this, the Popov Dog outfit and licensed music track Röyksopp Forever both appear to be correlated to the theme, suggesting that some development did occur.
