This page is a work in progress. As a result, the layout and/or content herein may be subject to change. |
Rules
We have rules you should follow when uploading images!
General Rules
Image Types
We want to use PNG images to avoid JPEG compression.
The only exception to this is when uploading an original screenshot, which are sometimes stored as JPG. See the Taking Screenshots help page for more information.
Editing Images
Generally, when uploading a Ripped Graphic, do not edit it. An exception to this rule is when uploading a Wiki Image, or an image for personal use on a userpage.
You're allowed to edit an image when you need to use an external program to display the image properly; an example would be an SDF texture. When editing the image, avoid using Microsoft Paint as browsers like Firefox won't correctly render colors from PNGs saved with the program.
Optimize Images and Filesizes
If an image has unnecessary metadata from image editing, please optimize it! Try to keep images under a reasonable size (under 10 MB). If you need to edit an image to keep it smaller, please list it was edited in the file description.
Ripping Graphics
When extracting images from the mainline games, try to use the latest version of toolkit to extract images, as it currently has support for Vita textures and SDF textures. Don't use any older programs like farctool as they have inaccuracies in extracting images.
Other tools besides toolkit are required to extract textures from LittleBigPlanet PSP, LittleBigPlanet Karting, Run Sackboy Run, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.
Screenshots
When uploading a screenshot, upload the whole screenshot. Cropping screenshots is allowed if you're focusing on a portion of the image.
Renders
You can upload official renders and renders made with a modeling program like Blender; try to keep the dimensions of custom renders at a reasonable size (below 1200px), and try stay accurate to the original material data.
Personal Images
Personal images are allowed; please tag the image with your username in the filename and keep the image at a reasonable size.
An example of a user image filename: DokkeFyxen_CoolDog.png
Uploading Images
You can upload a file by selecting Upload from the left sidebar. When uploading a file, try to follow filename conventions, and tag your image appropriately.
Filename Conventions
CamelCase Convention
For all images, we want to use CamelCase convention for the filenames. This means having a capital letter for every word; if an image has an acronym, be sure to include all letters of the acronym in uppercase. Some examples:
Object_Cheese_Wheel_Icon.png Render_LED_Small.png
Banned Characters
There are certain characters that are not allowed in filenames as they conflict with MediaWiki's page system.
? ! : / \ | [ ]
Filename Types
When uploading an image, be sure that the filename matches the type of image it is.
For example, if you are uploading a render, make sure it has Render in the filename:
Render_Davinci_Angry.png
Some examples are provided below for other filenames:
Sticker_Avalon_Character.png Badge_Clive_Main_Pipe_Dream.png Concept_LittleBigPlanet_Beanstalk.png Screenshot_Story_Wedding_04.jpg PlayStation_Store_Avatar_Animals_Frog_Asia.png UI_Tweak_Team_Filter.png
For popit icons, make sure to name the file with the type of icon, and also include Icon
at the end of the filename. Some examples are provided below:
Mat_Basic_Cardboard_Icon.png Background_Africa_Savannah_Icon.png Light_England_Garden_Star_Small_Icon.png Costume_Africa_Zebra_Head_Icon.png Decor_Africa_Savannah_Leaf_Green_01_Icon.png Obj_England_Garden_Scenic_Wood_n_Wool_Tree_Small_Icon.png Toy_Africa_Savannah_Character_Baby_Meerkats_Icon.png (For reference, Toy is used to separate the premade developer objects made out of materials from regular objects.)
Reference
For a list of image filenames to reference, see the Images category. Not all of the images currently uploaded follow proper naming conventions; if the filename for an image you uploaded gets changed by a Site Admin, make sure to use the naming convention they've provided.
Tagging Images
You are required to Tag your images appropriately before uploading them. Below is a list of the current image tags, which will be updated appropriately when new tags are added. Be sure to check the Image Templates category for a list of all templates.
Code: | Description: | Category: |
{{badgeicon|game}} | Graphics used for level badges, categorized by the game they were sourced from. | Level Badges |

Deleting Images
If you're looking to have an image removed, please edit the image page (edit in the upper right) and add {{delete}}
to the image page. This will mark the page for deletion, and a Site Admin will delete the image page in time. This also applies to regular pages.
