Japanese Tsukiji Market, usually shortened to Tsukiji Market, was a minor cut theme intended for the original LittleBigPlanet. Intended as one of multiple Japanese themes accessible in LittleBigPlanet's story mode, Tsukiji Market would have been based on the former Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo and taken inspiration from the market's stalls and displays.
History
As LittleBigPlanet's focus shifted towards real-world locations early on, development for the game's themes would explore multiple aspects of modern and traditional Japanese culture. Of these three, Japanese Zen Garden - later referred to as the Islands - would see the most development, next to Japanese Akihabara District prior to the latter theme being cut. Japanese Akihabara shared an exploration of Japan's urban culture with Japanese Tsukiji Market, with Tsukiji Market's focus being on the fish markets within Tokyo. Extensive concept art was done for Tsukiji Market by developer Kengo Kurimoto, who also did work on the outlines for Japanese Zen Garden and Akihabara District.[1]
Although little finalized gameplay is currently known for Tsukiji Market, concept art sees players platforming above and below richly decorated food stands. Prototype assets for seafood and stand displays exist in early build content for LittleBigPlanet, though none of it was retained in later builds of the game.
