History

General information

Physical appearance

Flounder has a circular head made of cardboard, with wooden facial features. He has narrowed eyes with curled eyebrows, a puppet-like mouth with a short beard, and a long, curvy nose adorned with a large mustache that has four wave-shaped tips resembling branches. He wears a brown top hat with a blue stripe, a modest ringmaster's jacket over a black shirt, white gloves, and short, blue, cartoony 'overalls' with two white buttons on the front. He also has toy chicken legs.

Personality

Colonel Flounder is a veteran showman with a Russian accent and a strong sense of duty to the original spirit of Carnivalia. He is deeply familiar with the ways of the "True Carnivalians" and is eager to teach them to Sackboy in order to defeat the Puppeteer.

Quotes

"Ha ha ha! I was never really scared!"

- Flounder after screaming at the end of the road.

"The Keys are the key to victory! Let the show begin!"

- Flounder before start the boss battle.

"A true Carivalian NEVER washes the socks!"

- Flounder while witnessing Sackboy's abduction.

Trivia

  • Flounder's black shirt, white gloves, and pants with buttons for non-existent suspenders are inspired by Mickey Mouse's appearance, and his steamboat presumably references the character's debut film Steamboat Willie, the cartoon that marked the start of the Golden Age of American animation.
  • Flounder's Colonel title, rather than being a military decoration, is an American honorary colonelcy, quite common in the South, where it has a more aristocratic character.
