If you're not sure about how to take screenshots of games on diferent systems, you'll find plenty of helpful information here.

PlayStation 3

While the PlayStation 3 is capable of outputting a resolution of 1920x1080, only the XMB and a small pool of titles natively suppport this. In practice, every LittleBigPlanet game released for the system runs at 1280x720; any screenshots of PlayStation 3 games should be taken at this resolution.

Hardware

The PlayStation 3 has HDCP enabled by default, with no way to disable it on official firmware. An HDMI splitter must be used to strip the protection out in order to capture footage on real hardware.

Emulation

In its current form (as of December 31 2023), RPCS3 has inconsistent accuracy across the series; while the mainline LittleBigPlanet platformers look close to how they appear on original hardware, LittleBigPlanet Karting has several inaccuracies when it comes to lighting and terrain materials. Screenshots from a real PlayStation 3 system are therefore preferred in most cases. If you upload an emulated screenshot, please make a note of which version was used; it will likely need to be retaken as the emulator improves and becomes more accurate.

  • While playing a game, press F12 to take a screenshot. Screenshots are saved under $(EmulatorDir)\screenshots\%TITLE_ID%\%TITLE_ID%_screenshot_%DATE_TIME%.png, where $(EmulatorDir) is your emulator's installation folder.
  • In the Config menu, under the GPU tab, make sure the Default Resolution is set to "1280x720 (Recommended)", and that Resolution Scale is "100%".

PlayStation 4

The PlayStation 4 has a native screenshot function, activated by pressing Share button. By default, this produces screenshots in JPEG format, though this can be changed in the Sharing and Broadcast Settings screen; under Screenshot Settings, set the Image Format to PNG.

PlayStation 5

Much like its predecessor, the PlayStation 5 has a dedicated Create button button for capturing screenshots, though they are still JPEGs by default. To change the format that screenshots are saved as, go to the Captures and Broacasts section of the system's Settings menu and select Screenshot Format under the Captures section. Change the File Type to PNG.

PlayStation Portable

All screenshots of PlayStation Portable games and software should be taken at the system's native resolution of 480x272.

Hardware

  • PRXShot[++]
    • Extract and register the plugin. Edit PRXSHOT.INI in the same directory as the PRX to configure it. Ideally, you'll want to ensure that your button combination won't interfere with gameplay, e.g. . Screenshots will be saved in your Memory Stick, under ms0:/PSP/SCREENSHOT/%TITLE_ID%/pic_????.bmp. Remember to convert them to PNG before uploading.
  • CWCheat
    • In the menu, go to "Settings > Change buttons" and set your command for "Screenshoot". Ideally, it should be a button that won't interfere with gameplay. Screenshots will be saved to the PSP/PHOTO/capture directory on your Memory Stick.

Emulation

  • PPSSPP
    • While playing, press F12 to take a screenshot. These will be saved in your emulated Memory Stick, under PSP/SCREENSHOT/%TITLE_ID%_?????.ext.
    • On the menu bar, go to Game Settings > Window Size and set it to "1x". In the emulator menu, go to Settings > Graphics and set "Rendering resolution" to "1x PSP", then go to System and turn on the "Save screenshots in PNG format" option.

PlayStation Vita

All PlayStation Vita screenshots, whether they be from one of the original handheld models or the PlayStation TV, should be taken at the system's native resolution of 960x544.

The PlayStation Vita has a native screenshot feature built-in, activated by pressing Start button + PS Button at the same time. Note that this produces screenshots in JPEG format which, depending on the game, are watermarked. The TaiHEN plugin PNGShot must be used to replace the official screenshot feature with one that takes lossless, non-watermarked PNGs instead.

In its current form (as of December 31 2023), Vita3K has several inaccuracies when emulating LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. For this reason, screenshots from official hardware are preferred. If you intend to upload an emulated screenshot, please make a note of which version was used; it will probably need to be retaken as the emulator becomes more accurate.

Windows PC

Steam

Steam is a game launcher created by Valve Corporation. It is mainly used to play games distributed through their digital storefront, e.g. Sackboy: A Big Adventure, but you can make it launch any game or application on your computer. Notably, Steam's in-game overlay allows one to capture screenshots, the default hotkey being F12, or Home + R1 when using a controller or a Steam Deck. Some controllers such as Nintendo Switch controllers may also have a dedicated Capture Button that Steam makes use of via Steam Input.

Steam screenshots are saved in JPEG format by default, which is a 'lossy' format that sacrifices image quality in favor of file size. To capture high quality PNGs, go to Settings > In Game, check "Save an uncompressed copy of my screenshots", then click the "Change folder" button to set which directory your uncompressed screenshots will be saved to. Do NOT use the "Show on disk" button in Steam's screenshot manager or use a version uploaded to Steam Cloud when retrieving your screenshots, as those are JPEGs. Instead, go to the directory you specified earlier to find your PNGs.

Note that the Steam overlay must actually be running in order to grab screenshots, and it is not compatible with older, software-rendered games.

Snipping Tool

The Snipping Tool is a glorified Print Screen application built into Microsoft Windows from Vista onwards. Select an appropriate mode, drag your cursor around an area you want to capture, and save the result as a PNG.

Later versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11 introduced a keyboard shortcut (Windows Key + Shift + S) to access this feature at any time; captures are saved to the clipboard, which can be pasted into your image editor of choice.

PrintScreen

If all else fails, press the PrtScrn key on your keyboard to take a screenshot, paste it into an image editor, and save the result as a PNG. If you have more than one display connected to your computer, press Alt + PrtScrn to only capture the active window.

iOS

Press the Power + Volume Up buttons at the same time to take a screenshot, indicated by a sound and the screen flashing white. The screenshot will be saved to the Camera Roll in PNG format. From there, you can upload your screenshot from Safari, or import it to your computer via USB.

Android

Press Power + Volume Down at the same time to take a screenshot, typically indicated by a sound or a screen effect. The screenshot will be saved in the gallery, under the "Screenshot" folder. From there, you can upload your screenshot from the browser, or import it to your computer via USB.

Depending on your phone's manufacturer, screenshots may be saved as JPEGs by default (Samsung Galaxy phones do this, for example), in which case you may need to change it in settings, or use a screenshot app that exports in .PNG format.
