A Snowball is a secondary powerup in Sackboy: A Big Adventure. It grants the user two different dash moves and protects them from most damage, but inhibits their other abilities.

Behaviour

A player automatically enters a Snowball when they get close enough, and can jump out at any time by pressing L1 button. The player can roll the Snowball around by pushing Left stick in any direction, but are subject to the ball's physics and momentum; they must gradually build up speed when moving from a standstill, and it takes more effort to roll uphill than downhill.

The player has access to two different dash abilities: Circle button instantly propells the user forward and stuns any enemy it collides with, while Square button kills the first enemy it collides with, but has a short windup before the player dashes forward. Both dash moves have a brief cooldown when used on the ground.

The player can also perform a small hop by pressing Cross button, and although it doesn't provide much height, it can be chained into either of the aforementioned dash moves to bypass their respective cooldowns, e.g. mashing Cross button and Circle button together allows the player to move much faster than would be possible by just pressing Circle button on its own. Separately, it is possible (if a bit finicky) to bounce the Snowball up and over certain ledges by hopping and pressing Square button at the jump's peak.

Once a player is inside a Snowball, another player can pick it up and throw it to areas that would otherwise be out of reach for the Snowball.

A Snowball protects the player from most forms of damage (with enemy attacks simply knocking them back) and instantly destroys any breakable object it touches — including Crates and Wobble Blobs. If a Snowball collides with a Destoyer Volume, such as in a door or bottomless pit, it will be destroyed and the player ejected.

Appearances

Snowballs first appear in Ready Yeti Go, and are used in spacious areas with plenty of enemies and breakable objects to crash into for points. They are also used in Snowman Left Behind, a teamwork level where two or more players must use the Snowball to solve problems.

Much later in the game, the Snowball returns in a bonus room in Crate Expectations, where it is used to traverse over platforms covered in spikes to collect five Dreamer Orb shards. Finally, they appear in Multitask Force, in the room behind the bottom left key door; one player must use the Snowball to get rid of the spiked Wobble Blobs so that the other player can safely pass.

Quotes

Hop in, go off-road and cause some merry festive mayhem in your personal snow globe-style vehicle. Keeps your woolly feet dry too.
