As LittleBigPlanet's focus shifted towards real-world locations early on, development for the game's themes would explore multiple aspects of modern and traditional Japanese culture. Of these three, Japanese Zen Garden - later referred to as [[the Islands]] - would see the most development, next to [[Japanese Akihabara District]] prior to the latter theme being cut. Japanese Akihabara shared an exploration of Japan's urban culture with Japanese Tsukiji Market, with Tsukiji Market's focus being on the fish markets within Tokyo. Although little finalized gameplay is currently known for Tsukiji Market, concept art sees players platforming above and below richly decorated food stands.
